Seagulls Swimming Club were formed in 1978 & New Milton Torpedoes
in 1977. Both successfully operated as separate clubs until
their merger on Sept 12th 2006, when the clubs came together to form
"Christchurch & New Milton Seagulls" (Seagulls).
Seagulls are a competitive swimming club & are based at the 2Riversmeet (2RM) Leisure Centre
in Christchurch, Dorset & New Milton Health & Leisure Centre,
Hants. Seagulls offer year-round competitive swimming & as we
are not an elitist club we are open to
anyone who is able to swim one length of the pool.
Seagulls Swimming Club has a strong and growing membership drawn
from all age groups - 7 years & upwards, Seniors (18+) & Masters
(25+) and as a result of it's twin bases attracts swimmers from Christchurch,
New Milton & the
surrounding areas of Dorset & Hants (Barton-on-sea, Bournemouth, Bransgore,
Brockenhurst, Burton,
Highcliffe, Milford-on-sea, New Milton, Lymington & Verwood).
The
club is fully affiliated with the Amateur Swimming Association
(ASA) & has also received the
ASA's Swim 21 accreditation.
Coaching is provided by a highly qualified team lead by a
full-time Head Coach& the club is run by a
team of enthusiastic parents......however, we are always looking for new
members to help with the many & varied tasks.
Seagulls Swimming Club is a competitive swimming club, in that its
members are trained to take part in competitive events. As such,
all members
(except Masters - see our Masters page)
are expected to take an active part in the various
competitions that are run throughout the year.
The
club is currently seeking sponsor(s) to
contribute to ensuring that a solid financial foundation is in place which
will in turn
enable Seagulls SC to build positive medium & long-term plans for
the future success of the club.
But don't take our word for it......why not come along for a free
trial & see what a great club we are for yourself.
BENEFITS OF COMPETITIVE SWIMMING
Members of Seagulls Swimming
Club are taught the fundamentals of competitive
swimming including the further development & perfection of
stroke skills, as well as sportsmanship & teamwork. In
addition, swimmers get to meet & interact with new people
whilst enjoying the health benefits of regular
physical activity.
Not everyone will be a superstar & that's OK as the benefits that
competition brings: self discipline; goal setting; self
motivation; honesty; self-confidence; team camaraderie;
experience of success & how to deal with defeat; academic
structure & strength; physical fitness & development, & friends,
can all be viewed as valuable life skills. Ultimately though,
competitive swimming is a fun team sport where everyone
participates & everyone wins through individual & team
accomplishments.
