Squads

Downloadable guide:  Water Polo Structure

WP1:    Starter Squad (typically 10 yrs and under)

7:00 – 7:30pm on Sunday evenings at 2RM (teaching pool)

  • Taster sessions aimed at introducing swimmers to the game. 
  • Teaches basic skills through fun exercises and playing games with no emphasis on the rules.

WP2:    Novice Squad (typically 9-11 yrs)

7:45 – 9:30am on Sunday mornings at New Milton (main pool – shallow end)

  • First stage training for players looking to play mini-polo for the club in local league matches.
  • Introduces the main rules with an emphasis on core water polo skills and fitness.

WP3: Academy Squad (typically 11-14 yrs)

7:45 – 9:30am on Sunday mornings at New Milton (main pool)

  • Training for swimmers looking to play for the club in local league matches and in regional tournaments. 
  • Covers the full set of skills and rules. Introduces tactics and team strategies. 
  • Opens entry to regional development sessions and the South West Water Polo Academy

WP4:    Junior Squad (14-17yrs)

7:45 – 9:30am on Sunday mornings at New Milton (main pool)

  • Training for swimmers looking to play for the club in local league matches and in regional tournaments. 
  • Covers the full set of skills and rules. Introduces advanced tactics and team strategies. 
  • Opens entry to senior league and university water polo.

 

When players hit the age of 17 we will then look to place the player in a Senior Club, that plays at Regional or National League Level.
